David Everett Marko earned his master’s degree in International and Comparative Law in 1992 from the Free University of Brussels, where his academic focus was emerging markets and business development. Upon returning home to Miami, he began a transactional business practice and co-founded de la O & Marko in 1994 with his childhood best friend.

Mr. Marko has represented companies and clients on four continents. He is a member of the Florida Bar, is admitted to practice in various Federal jurisdictions, and is a member of the firm’s Business Transactions Department. He primarily represents privately held companies, often filling the role of “in-house” counsel and troubleshooter. Martindale-Hubbell has awarded Mr. Marko an AV peer review rating, signifying that other lawyers consider his legal skills to be “very high to preeminent.”

Mr. Marko earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Communication (1988) and a Juris Doctor (1991) from Florida State University. He received numerous academic and advocacy awards. As an undergraduate, he was elected Political Communication Student of the Year by the faculty. In law school, he was selected International Law Student of the Year, and was awarded the Book Award in Ocean and Coastal Law and Moot Court. Mr. Marko was also elected a member of the Order of the Barristers, and was a two-time Moot Court Champion. He was a founding member of the Journal of Progressive Legal Thought, and published articles in several prestigious law journals on various domestic and international law topics, including the Journal of International Law & Trade and the Journal of Natural Resources & Environmental Law.

As a native Miamian, Mr. Marko is deeply committed to our community. He is active in many community organizations, serving on the Board of Directors of Easter Seals of Miami-Dade County and e-Equality (bridging the digital divide among poor and at risk youth). He is pro bono counsel to the Human Services Coalition and has enthusiastically filled a similar role for various other community groups. He received a Special Recognition Award from Easter Seals and was nominated for the Dorothy Shula Award for Volunteerism. Mr. Marko has joined other members of the firm as a participant in the Miami Fellows Initiative, an intensive two-year leadership skills building program designed to produce a generation of ethical, capable community leaders. He has served on various governmental boards, including the City of Miami Homeland Security/Neighborhood Improvement Bond Oversight Board, as well as the City Commission’s District Boundary Board.
